Paula Morin Cool Crow Production CEOPaula Morin, CEO of Cool Crow Music, is an international recording artist and songwriter

As a lead singer with the band FF&Z, Paula Morin shared the stages around Europe with bands such as The Moody Blues and The Kinks. Under contract to CBS Records in the UK, FF&Z recorded two albums and three singles. One of the songs that Paula wrote, “Everybody Get Out Of Bed” hit the top of the charts in the UK and then went on to sweep the music charts in France under a French singer’s cover version. FF&Z music has enjoyed a loyal following for years and now their albums will be re-released by major distributors in Europe and the US in the Fall of 2011.

Paula won several songwriter competitions at the famous Palomino Club in LA. Her band became the house band for the unforgettable, Sundance Saloon in Calabasas CA. She says, “Many outstanding, hard working musicians gravitated to this bar to sit in with the band. Some of those musicians included John Hobbs, Albert Lee, Joe Cocker, Bobby Keys, Ernie Corallo and others who were famous at that time or became well known shortly afterwards.”

After a hiatus to raise her daughter, Paula came roaring back onto the music scene with her own Indie CD in 2009 called, “What Took Me So Long”. The album spoke Country but hinted of the jazz to come. Then the manager of a major New Orleans singer asked Paula to write an R&B tune for a proposed CD. That CD changed direction and left R&B out of the mix. Luckily the song got picked up by another R&B singer in Atlanta for her next CD. Paula remembered her true love for 80s R&B music and went on to write several more tunes. When asked about this she says, “My all time favorite singer is Francine Reed. What a voice and style! No one can ever come close to her! Lyle Lovett touched greatness every time he recorded with Francine. That woman embraces attitude!”

Since Paula also loves colorful chords, she started leaning more towards the jazz side of music. Not alien to her since her first musical influences came from old 78 records her Dad played that featured great jazz singers like Peggy Lee and Dinah Shore. Plus legendary musicians like Pete Fountain and Jack Teagarden. In her teens, she listened to Nancy Wilson, Dinah Washington, Nina Simone and Mosse Allison. Most recently artists like Cassandra Wilson, Melissa Walker and Esperanza Spaulding have her rapt attention.

Paula has turned out several beautifully written songs that are absolutely perfect for individual artists or for films. In closing Paula intimated with a wicked grin that she’d like to tackle Salsa next. “I love Latin music! However it was pointed out to me, and not unkindly, by an accomplished percussionist at Berklee in Boston, that I don’t speak Spanish and therefore cannot possibly write in that genre. The gauntlet has been laid down. Watch me now!
